ABERDEEN RECEIVES GRANT FROM STATE FOR RESURFACING
OF LOCUST AND GROVE STREETS

ABERDEEN TOWNSHIP (1/21/10)—Aberdeen Township today announced that it will receive $218,000 from The State of New Jersey’s Department of Transportation -Transportation Trust Fund to
pay for the resurfacing of Locust and Grove Streets.

The project, which is expected to begin in the summer of 2011, is projected to take approximately 45 to 60 days. Both streets, which extend from Matawan Avenue to Cliffwood Avenue, will be completely resurfaced so as to provide improved riding surfaces and vehicle and pedestrian movements in the area around the Matawan Avenue Middle School, according to David Samuel, PE, Aberdeen Township Engineer.

Samuel noted that the work will include partial roadway reconstruction, milling and overlay of the existing surface course pavement, as well as the construction of curbs, sidewalks and ADA-accessible concrete ramps.  The project will also include installation of some additional drainage, plus new bicycle- safe inlet frames and grates on all existing storm drainage structures along the roadways. Upon completion of the resurfacing, Aberdeen will install thermoplastic traffic striping and cross-walk striping on both streets, as well as restore any paved driveways and curbside grass areas impacted by the project.

The grant is expected to cover approximately 77% of the project cost.
