--Town now accepting applications from residents and businesses for roadside banners that will appear between Memorial and Veterans Day for next two years
ABERDEEN TOWNSHIP, N.J. (3/xx/20)—Aberdeen Township’s Mayor and Council will be honoring veterans and active military members through a program under which individualized banners will be displayed along select roads throughout the municipality between Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day over the next two years.
“Our Council is pleased to present The Hometown Heroes Project, which was created to give residents and business owners the opportunity to display their appreciation for the brave men and women who are serving or have served our country,” said Mayor Fred Tagliarini.
Participants in the project can purchase banners honoring veterans or active military members with ties to Aberdeen. Residents and businesses who don’t have a specific Hometown Hero to honor can still participate by purchasing an American Flag banner that may include their name, family name or business name.
The banners, which cost $125, are 24 inches by 48 inches and printed on both sides. Each Hometown Hero banner will contain the veteran’s military photo, name, branch of military and era of service. The American flag banners will be emblazoned with the purchaser’s name, family name or business name.
Applications for the 2020 program are due at Aberdeen Town Hall by April 15.
All checks for the banners will be payable to Panther Press, the Aberdeen business that will be producing the banners. Aberdeen’s Public Works Department will install, take down and store the banners during the two-year period.
To be eligible, Hometown Hero honorees must have established roots in Aberdeen Township and meet at least one of the following requirements: Current active military duty, honorable discharged veteran or POW/MIA. Those who gave their lives in action are also eligible. The project honors those from all six branches: Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, and Merchant Marine. Proper verification is required.
Those interested in participating can obtain an application by contacting Aberdeen Township Public Information Officer Brittany Shea at: 732-583-4200, ext. 130, or by email at Brittany.Shea@aberdeennj.org.
