            3/15/2020 - IMPORTANT TOWNSHIP UPDATE

THE ABERDEEN TOWNSHIP MAYOR AND COUNCIL, MANAGER AND OFFICE OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT HAVE BEEN CLOSELY MONITORING THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC AND RECIEVES REGULAR UPDATES FROM FEDERAL, STATE, AND COUNTY AGENICES AND THE SUPERINTENDENT OF THE MATAWAN-ABERDEEN REGIONAL SCHOOL DISTRICT.
THE TOWNSHIP’S TOP PRIORITY IS TO PROTECT THE SAFETY OF OUR RESIDENTS AND EMPLOYEES FROM THE COVID-19 VIRUS WHILE AT THE SAME TIME, CONTINUE TO PROVIDE NECESSSARY SERVICES. TO ACCOMPLISH THIS GOAL, THE TOWNSHIP IS ANNOUNCING THE ACTIONS IT WILL TAKE TO PREVENT THE SPREAD OF COVID-19 AS WE CONTINUE TO OPERATE.
BEGINNING MONDAY MARCH 16TH UNTIL THE END OF MARCH, ALL TOWNSHIP BUILIDINGS INCLUDING THE MUNICIPAL COURT WILL BE CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC. ALL TOWNSHIP DEPARTMENTS WILL CONTINUE TO CONDUCT BUSINESS AND ASSIST THE PUBLIC VIA EMAIL, TEXT, PHONE, AND REGULAR MAIL. FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION, A LISTING OF DEPARTMENTS AND INSTRUCTIONS IS POSTED ON THE ABERDEEN TOWNSHIP WEBSITE AT www.aberdeennj.org
THE ABERDEEN TOWNSHIP POLICE DEPARTMENT WILL BE LIMITING ITS FACE-TO-FACE INTERACTIONS WHEN POSSIBLE. OUR GOAL IS TO MAINTAIN A HEALTHY POLICE FORCE FOR THE CONTINUATION OF SERVICES WITHOUT RESORTING TO CONTINGENCY PLANS.
WE ARE REQUESTING THAT THE PUBLIC CALL INTO HQ RATHER THAN WALK IN FOR NON-EMERGENCIES. NON-EMERGENT MATTERS MAY BE REPORTED OVER THE PHONE AND AN OFFICER WILL TAKE YOUR REPORT. THIS APPLIES TO A VARIETY OF OFFENSES THAT ARE NOT IN PROGRESS.
IF YOU ARE REPORTING AN INCIDENT THAT REQUIRES A POLICE, FIRE, OR FIRST AID RESPONSE TO YOUR HOME OR LOCATION, THE DISPATCHER WILL BE ASKING ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS BEYOND THE NORMAL QUESTIONS ASKED. WE ARE DOING THIS TO PROTECT THE SAFETY OF OUR FIRST RESPONDERS.
OFFICERS WILL ALWAYS RESPOND TO CRIMES OF VIOLENCE AND CRIMES AGAINST A PERSON.
PLEASE BE ASSURED, THAT WE ARE HERE FOR YOU, AS YOU WOULD EXPECT. IF YOU NEED US, CALL US. THE ONLY THING WE ARE TEMPORARILY CHANGING IS THE MANNER IN WHICH WE PROVIDE OUR SERVICES NOT THE QUALITY OF THE SERVICE.
WE WILL CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE RECOMMENDATIONS FOR HEALTH AND SAFETY AS THEY RELATE TO COVID-19.
PLEASE CONTINUE TO FOLLOW THE TOWNSHIP WEBSITE AND FACEBOOK PAGE FOR INFORMATION ON TOWNSHIP OPERATIONS.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE, UNDERSTANDING, AND COOPERATION.
