            Dear Neighbors,
Today’s update includes new information about direct stimulus payments for Social Security recipients as well as new local announcements. Please do not hesitate to call my offices if you have questions.
An Update for Social Security Recipients with Qualifying Dependents
The IRS has updated its guidance for Social Security recipients who have qualifying children under age 17. To receive the additional $500 per qualifying dependent faster, they should click here and follow the directions provided by the IRS.
By taking proactive steps to enter information on the IRS website about them and their qualifying children, they will also receive the $500 per dependent child payment in addition to their $1200 individual payment. If recipients do not provide their information to the IRS soon, the $500 payment per qualifying child will be delayed.
            Local Announcements
Governor Murphy is encouraging New Jerseyans who need a COVID-19 test to use the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel rather than the Paramus location, if possible. Currently, the Holmdel site has more capacity for daily testing.
A field medical station in Atlantic City is expected to open next week.
Governor Murphy has signed a bill into law that allows employees who are caring for family members due to COVID-19 to receive up to 12 weeks of paid family leave in a 24-month period without losing their job.
Over 10,000 out-of-state medical providers are now licensed to offer telemedicine to New Jerseyans.
Bruce Springsteen has announced that he will host a “Jersey 4 Jersey” fundraiser event to benefit the New Jersey Pandemic Relief Fund on April 22nd at 7 PM. He will be joined by Saquon Barkley, Tony Bennett, Jon Bon Jovi, Danny DeVito, and Whoopi Goldberg. Please check your local listings for more information.
If you have questions about taxes or stimulus checks:
The distribution of federal stimulus checks began this week and will occur automatically with no action required for most people. Adults with annual incomes up to $75,000 will receive $1200, plus another $500 per child. Some Americans earning more than $75,000 would also receive money if they meet certain qualifications.
Social Security beneficiaries who are not typically required to file tax returns will not need to do anything to receive a payment. Instead, payments will be automatically deposited into their bank accounts. Social Security recipients who have qualifying children under age 17 should click here and follow the directions provided by the IRS to receive the additional $500 payment per dependent faster.
