ABERDEEN, KEYPORT AND MATAWAN FORM SHARED SERVICES COMMITTEE
IN EFFORT TO REDUCE COSTS FOR TAXPAYERS
ABERDEEN TOWNSHIP (1/1/2010)–Aberdeen Township and the boroughs of Keyport and Matawan today announced that they have teamed together to form a Shared Services Committee.
The committee is charged with exploring opportunities to share services and reduce redundancies in an effort to cut costs for taxpayers in the three Bayshore municipalities. Such opportunities might include joint purchasing agreements for grass-cutting and landscaping services, gasoline and diesel fuel, and salt for snow and ice removal; as well as arrangements to share equipment and facilities.
Plans call for the committee to meet at least once or twice a month, beginning this January.
The committee will be led by Mayors Fred Tagliarini of Aberdeen, Robert J. Bergen of Keyport and Paul Buccellato of Matawan. They will be joined on the committee by one member of each Council, an alternate member of each Council, as well as the manager or administrator of each municipality. Department heads or professionals from each municipality will appear at individual meetings to discuss savings opportunities associated with their respective areas of responsibility.
“While we have worked through the years with neighboring municipalities and the Matawan-Aberdeen Regional School District on a number of shared services agreements, we believe that this formal committee with Keyport and Matawan will take our efforts to another level,” said Tagliarini. “Our objective is to pool our resources and reduce costs to our taxpayers in a manner that will be equitable for all communities involved. We look forward to beginning this process with our neighbors.”
