Mayor Greg Cannon

Greg Cannon is a fourth-generation resident of the Aberdeen community and has devoted his life and career to strengthening the town his family has called home for generations. A product of Matawan-Aberdeen Regional School District, he graduated from Matawan-Aberdeen Regional High School in 2001 before earning his degree from the University of Notre Dame in 2004. He later received his Juris Doctor from Villanova University School of Law in 2007, laying the foundation for a distinguished legal career grounded in service and advocacy.

Greg was first elected to the Aberdeen Township Council in 2009 and has been a dedicated voice for residents throughout his years in office. His work on the Council has included service on several key committees, including the Woodfield Sewer Project, Emergency Medical Services, and Capital Projects, where he helped guide infrastructure improvements and essential municipal initiatives. He also served as Vice-President of the Matawan-Aberdeen Public Library Board of Trustees, supporting the growth of one of the community’s most important public institutions.

Professionally, Greg is a partner at Sobel Han, LLP, an Aberdeen-based law firm that reflects his deep commitment to small business and the local economy. He has also contributed his legal expertise as a former municipal prosecutor, earning a reputation for fairness, diligence, and professionalism. Beyond his work in the courtroom and council chambers, Greg remains active in community and civic life. He is a member of the Matawan-Keyport Elks Lodge 2030, a parishioner of St. Clement Catholic Church, and a volunteer coach for Aberdeen/Matawan youth sports programs. He is also a member of both the New Jersey Irish-American Bar Association and the New Jersey State Bar Association.

A lifelong resident, Greg is proud to raise his family in Aberdeen. He and his wife, Colleen, are the proud parents of their three sons, Declan, Dylan, Killian and daughter Quinn who inspire his commitment to building a vibrant, inclusive, and forward-looking community. As he steps into the role of Mayor, Greg Cannon brings with him deep local roots, professional experience, and a heartfelt dedication to ensuring Aberdeen thrives for generations to come.
